Notes on Scene Set 1

Each scenario comes with a set of questions that both actors can explore together or seperately. The categories cover relationship, emotional, contextual and needs obligations.

When the set is downloaded you will see that each scenario is laid out over two pages. The information above the line is common knowledge to both actors/characters and the information below the line focuses on inner thoughts and concerns of the character.

The actors can choose to share this information in their explorations or they can keep it to themselves for the purpose of revealing new information inside the improvisation.

The scenarios are designed to be specific enough to give actors plenty of material to explore but also to be ambiguous enough to allow for interpretation and recontextualisation.

This set contains materila that will most likely lean to dramatic contexts.

Each scenario is designed to be used as either a one-off improvisation or a work that can be rehearsed over time. In a one-off improvisation actors may surprise each other with information that neither one anticipates. Or in a rehearsal process a scene may be developed where the dialogue will always stay fresh but the scene structure and actor's understanding of the given circumstances will deepen and both aspects become more refined.
